Top 10 Future Technologies That Are Here Right Now
We'll watch THIS VIDEO in class. After you watch it, think about the ten technologies presented, and pick the one you think will "take off" the fastest.
As you explain why, talk about such things as:
What industry will drive it's development and/or be responsible for its success?
Why do you believe will it be successful?
What might hold back the development or acceptance of the technology, and why?
When you respond to classmates, challenge or support their predictions, and offer your opinions and additional information.
3 Posts are required by Friday: Your initial post, a response to another student's post, and another response to a post.
Note: Be sure to post thoughtful responses to blog questions - both the initial question that I post, AND to the posts of your classmates. "Yeah, I agree," or "Good point!" is not a complete response. Remember, you're carrying on a conversation, that you are contributing to!
I think that laser healing will be developed in the future because it could be the fastest healing process in the world and it could heal deep cuts that you may need stitches for. That is why I think that laser healing will take off the fastest.
ReplyDeleteYes, but who is funding the whole thing, It's just unrealistic, and what are the side effects.
DeleteWell, to be honest laser healing already exists maby not the way we saw it here, however, If you want to see the details on reaserch and develoment look it up. You can find some intersting details at this linkhttps://www.spineuniverse.com/treatments/physical-therapy/pain-relief-healing-laser-therapy.
DeleteI think that the laser healing would take a lot of money and research to become accessible for everyone and like Logan said, who is funding the whole thing?
DeleteI agree that it would take a lot of money to do research and but in the long run it might really help people and might be the number one way to go.
DeleteNano Factories all the way. Being able to reconfigure an objects molecular structure means you could turn dirt into diamonds! Although it is on an atomic scale, as technology advances we can get bigger and bigger. One day we might be able to turn something abundant such as dirt into valuable objects.
ReplyDeleteI agree it would be amazing to turn an abundant substance to more useful, expensive items. People wouldn't have to go to the to get the stuff they need, but then companies would go out of business. Although turning dirt to diamond would be awesome, but if we can make as much diamond as we want then it will loose its value, but at the same time it would be a strong material everyone could use.
DeleteWhile that would be great, I feel it could ruin the economy, money would become valueless and stores would no longer be able to exist.
DeleteI think laser healing development will be successful in the future because it could be the fastest healing process in the world. I also think it will be successful in the future because it can heal deep cuts that would need stitches. That is a couple reasons why I think laser healing will be successful in the future.
ReplyDeleteLaser healing is a great idea, maybe putting doctors out of business; but not having to go to the hospital and paying expensive medical bills would make at home laser healing very convenient.
DeleteI feel that this technology could be putting people out of jobs, and that it shouldn't be operated by everyday people. It also seems as though it would be very expensive.
DeleteI agree. I don't think this is too far from the future and is a great idea. With faster healing, it could reduce the chance of infection and possibly reduce scarring.
DeleteI think that the laser healing could be very useful in the near future, but it also could get extremely expensive.
DeleteI think the self-fitting clothing would be the first to take off, first of all average people would benefit from the product while not everybody would have the money for laser healing or the need for a prosthetic limb. Everyone has a need for clothes and wouldn't waste money on buying something accidentally that would't fit, therefore people would save time and money not just for the buyer but for the maker also because there wouldn't be a need for making all sizes of one item which saves money to make a larger variety as well.
ReplyDeleteWithout all the different sizes of clothes, wouldn't they loose money because they wouldn't be selling as much clothes? Otherwise I believe everything else you said.
DeleteI think that the self fitting clothing by far has the best chance of success in the real world today, if they can actually get it to work. I believe this because it would save people a lot of time from ordering the wrong size and the right size being out of stock as companies could just make it one size fits all. With self fitting clothing you would also be saving money by clothes that you outgrow. Overall I think its a great technology opurrtunity for the future. What do you think?
ReplyDeleteSelf fitting clothes is a great idea especially if you have a job using the lathe (If you know what I mean). I agree that it would save people a lot of time and money, but it would also cause company's to lose money because people wouldn't be buying clothes as often because they'd fit you forever.
DeleteSelf fitting clothes would be pretty cool. However, think of the consequences. They'd probably be pretty expensive right? All the kinks as well would have to be worked out. Such as: what if you get stuck in your clothes? What if the techno-skin (or whatever) malfunctions and breaks?
DeleteI think self fitting clothes would be really cool but i believe that the prices would be very expensive i mean if you look at clothes right now its not that bad.
DeleteI think self fitting clothes would be a good idea, but you have to think about the drawbacks. There is the cost, like Trevor and Cade said, and I also think that it would take a while to develop before it would be worth buying into.
DeleteThe self fitting clothes sound amazing but I feel there'd be more negative things than positive. Like what Cade and Trevor said, it would probably be expensive considering the fact that it would be self fitting. Another thing is that companies would lose money because people wouldn't shop as much.
DeleteI think that the neurologic prosthetics would take off first because it would both benefit the military and regular life. Imagine that you lost your dominate hand what could you do? Well you could just reteach yourself to use your left or right hand or you could get neurologic prosthetics and you could use your hand again. And it could help wounded vets and help people who want to go back in the military.
ReplyDeleteI agree with your statement but the only problem to take into consideration would be money, not every average person has the money for such an item and of course before a product takes off completely it wouldn't be available to people perhaps in small towns or without well paying jobs.
DeleteI believe the crash proof car will be the most likely to take off. I believe this because millions and millions of people own and drive cars. Many things can cause car crashes, but if your car can avoid them, crashes might not happen ever again. A lot of car companies, like BMW and Cadillac have already made cars with backup sensors, and sensors that tell you when you come to close to an object or stop the car if necessary. I think that insurance companies will do anything they can to slow down the manufacturing of a crash proof car because they will loose money if people don't get in accidents.
ReplyDeleteDriving sure would be a lot less stressful with crash proof cars, but with all of those sensors on the car there is more to go wrong. It is a great idea in theory but I think that price could be an issue which would cause most of the population not able to afford it. I agree that this is a cool idea, not to mention probably saving a few lives every year. But I don't see it being a practical thing for the majority to get.
DeleteThe price is going to increase dramatically just with the sensors alone, and with all the new features included in the newer vehicles, only the upper class are going to be able to buy them.
DeleteI agree because if there were like drunk drivers or just reckless drivers they could avoid lots of car crashes and there wouldn't be any injuries. But then the doctors wouldn't be getting as much business as if there were crashes because there are a ton of crashes a year and that might be the number one business that they get
DeleteWe are already really close to having crash proof cars. Over the years cars have become more durable and safe. Especially with the sensors we have now that will automatically stop your car if your close to crashing. Crash proof cars could be right around the corner for us.
DeleteThe crash proof car in actuallity is a good concept. It would remove driver error from accidents to help save lives. The only problem I have with crash proof cars is that to be 100% effective everyone would have to own one. I say this because it still doesn't prevent another driver without a crash proof car from hitting you
DeleteCrash proof cars are still far in the future and are barely 1% finished today. It's like a dream, a car that can prevent crashes. Either if it's self-driving or just plain crash-proof, it's probably not possible.
DeleteI think the universal translator will take off because I feel that the language barrier is one of the worlds' biggest problems, and I have seen videos showing a translator that show people speaking into it and it comes out in the language they want. I guess with a few more tweaks and things, the future could be not so far off.
ReplyDeleteI agree. A universal translator would help when it comes to traveling whether it be for a vacation or business.
DeleteI believe that the robot "Avatar" project is the closest, I support it because robots are already being used in many supportive roles in the military, we have a defense budget of 1.3 Trillion USD which a decent amount is pay out to companies that would design and develop such things, the USAF also advances a lot of tech for the US Military. So to wrap it all up the US government is the biggest spender on technological advancements especially when it's to advance our militaries ability to fight which as of right now is the largest most powerful in the world.
ReplyDeleteI think it would be a long time coming before the idea of the avatars became a reality. with any technology there's always a vast chance of something going wrong whether it be a computer, car, or something as completely simple as a microwave. suppose something went wrong with these avatars and next we have defective military based robots running around? I'm just saying I believe it's not something to become a reality for a long time yet wheres some of the other products mentioned are quite close to showing up in our lives and being perfected. Also, for a product to essentially to "take off" a majority of our population would need to be on board and be able to benefit from the product, not saying not everyone would, because in the long run of course we benefit because these bots would be a big part of battle and "saving out lives". Other then theses points I think the product is a fantastic idea and could definitely prove to be effective and beneficial to the government and I see your points however the question is "which will take off the fastest" not "which would be most beneficial" and I just don't see this being a reality to us as soon as some of the other options.
DeleteI think its an ok idea, but in my opinion i dont see avatars in our lifetime actully providing a combat roll. and although we have the highest military budget in the entire world i think the budget could be used to develope other more practical rolls. Overall i just dont think robots are practical in the military in our life times
DeleteI think the Prosthetic Limbs would be the biggest thing, making it possible for amputees to do simple things like picking up a glass of water and drinking. It might be expensive to manufacture and sell, but most of the budget is probably coming from the Military and Health Field.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
DeleteI agree with everything you said. Prosthetic Limbs would benefit regular life and the military because it would give them another chance to do what they wanna do. They would be able to re-join the military or just have a normal life with the prothetic limbs.
DeleteI think the universal translator will take off the fastest. People will be able to do business with other countries with the help of the universal translators. You can talk to any body in the world even if you don't know how to speak their language. This could also make advances in the medical field.
ReplyDeleteWhy do you think it would help in the medical field? I know that it would translate languages so that doctors anywhere could understand their patients, but other than that how would it advance anything in medical technology?
DeleteBut will a universal translator be as effective as a interpreter? I agree a universal translator would be helpful, but I don't see this becoming a reality. It would probably be very expensive to make and no electronic translator can be perfect.
DeleteIt could advance the medical field because doctors would be able to associate with other doctors or scientists that don't speak their language and they could find alternative medicines for illnesses or work together to find solutions for any other problems

ReplyDeleteI believe the artificial organs would be the first to take off. Thousands of people need new organs and cannot always find a matching donor. With artificial organs millions of people all over the world would have a second chance at life. Yes it would be very expensive but you cannot put a price on life.
ReplyDeleteI think that self fitting clothes will take off the fastest, because it will save people more time in the stores and if you have online websites to purchase the self fitting clothing people wont have to even go to the stores and nobody will have to worry about not having a certain item in there size. I think that a private company will make the clothing take off and the company will probably be in China or somewhere where we get most of our clothes from already.
ReplyDeleteIt would lose jobs for people working in clothing stores, and it would hurt the economy. What is your reasoning other then saving people time in stores?
DeleteThe sunscreen pill will be revolutionary. Well, to the world of skin-care products at least.
ReplyDeleteOften, it gets frustrating to constantly reapply sunscreen when out in the sun. Whether doing sports or just relaxing, it's a pain. However, the sunscreen pill can remove all of that hassle. While the pill is not a direct alternative, it's meant to prevent sunburn in the end. And if you end up getting sunburn, then the pill can also "ease" the damage. Better then nothing though, right?
Better than nothing yes, but regular sunscreen lasts for a few hours already. Most people are not in the sun for 5+ hours at a time. Plus sunscreen comes in spray cans that are easy to apply when needed and doesn't feel slimy. The concept is cool in theory but what would that pill do to your insides? I feel that ingesting a pill that protects you from the sun is pooka skech. Once you can prove there is no side affects I would consider being a supporter.
DeleteI think the self fitting close will be the next to take off because it will save people so much time in the stores because they can pick something out that they like the patterns and know that it will fit so they don't have to waste there time going into the changing room and trying it on, and it will also make online shopping easier because the things you buy always look good on the website so when your clothes get sent to you will know you like the way they fit.
